Life is busy enough with work, school, laundry, and all the daily routines that we could all use a little help making things easier. Here, I’m sharing some of my favorite cleaning hacks, along with a few general tips I use to simplify my day-to-day life. If you’re anything like me, you’ll appreciate every shortcut you can get. Let’s make this daily grind a little smoother together!
1. DIY Glass Cleaner
Ever get into full cleaning mode, music blasting, only to realize you’re out of Windex or glass cleaner? It’s frustrating, but there’s an easy fix: mix equal parts water and white vinegar for a natural, streak-free glass cleaner. You probably already have both at home! Bonus: add half a cup of vinegar to your dishwasher with each load to banish water stains and make your glassware sparkle. Looks like I’ll be stocking up on vinegar from now on.
2. Fresh Carpets with Baking Soda
Baking soda is a classic odor neutralizer. Sprinkle it on your carpets and let it sit for at least 30 minutes to absorb any lingering smells. I like to mix in a few drops of my favorite essential oils before sprinkling; this hack is not only effective but customizable. For an extra bonus, add peppermint or lavender oil to help repel pests around carpeted areas while keeping things smelling fresh.
3. Microwave Magic
To eliminate microwave odors and loosen stuck-on grime, heat a bowl of water with a lime (or lemon) for about three minutes. The steam makes wiping down the interior a breeze. Here’s another tip: sanitize your kitchen sponge by wetting it and microwaving it for one minute. Or, multitask—place the sponge in the same bowl with the lime and microwave for three minutes to clean both at once. Two chores done, one hack!
4. Coke as Toilet Cleaner
If you’re out of toilet cleaner but have a can of Coke on hand, you’re in luck. The acidity in Coke helps break down stains and grime in the toilet bowl. Who knew?
5. Showerhead Revival
When’s the last time you cleaned your showerhead? If it’s been a while, grab that vinegar again. Fill a plastic bag with vinegar, tie it around the showerhead, and let it soak overnight. This dissolves mineral buildup, which isn’t great for your skin or hair. Add this to your seasonal cleaning list.. I know I will!
6. Quick Carpet Stain Remover
For carpet stains when you don’t have a carpet cleaner, vinegar comes to the rescue again. Mix equal parts vinegar and water, apply to the stain, cover with a wet cloth, and steam with an iron for 30 seconds to a minute. This lifts most stains—perfect for homes with kids (or clumsy adults).
It’s clear that stocking up on vinegar is a game-changer for cleaning! It’s amazing how many ways you can use everyday items to make life a little easier. Cleaning may feel like an endless task, but these simple hacks can help you tackle it with less stress. A clean home brings peace of mind and to be honest we could all use a bit more of that. I hope you try out some of these hacks and find that they make your daily routine just a little bit easier.
